There's an AP article called Soccer Sundays that caught my attention with this quote:
“We play by the same rules as Anglo soccer, but we have a different style,” he said. “Since Latinos aren't very tall, we have to play on the ground, with little touches and lots of passes, not big kicks and playing through the air like the Anglo game.''
Having grow up with a Chilean friend who played soccer competitively his whole life I can certainly say that he played differently than anything I'd ever seen before. Little touches, lots of passes. Easy right? For those of you that know NaisanG. ask him to tell you the story of his being chased off the Stanford soccer field by a group that didn't appreciate his style of play. As I recall Naisan was actually fearful of his life on that day. Those of us that knew Naisan in his younger days won't find this terribly surprising. (props to Naisan for not ever actually killing me while riding in his car)
